Why I Became a
Practitioner
"After having
spent thousands of dollars and many years
seeking relief from TMJ disorder and arm
numbness, I found relief when I went through
Rolfing Structural Integration. Not only
did it eliminate all of my symptoms, but I also
gained improved posture, increased flexibility
and an overall greater sense of well-being.
After talking to many Rolfers about their work,
I decided to become trained in order to share
this important and powerful work with others.
My Education,
Training and Certifications
I was certified
as a practitioner in
November 2002 by the Guild for Structural
Integration. The Guild was the first
school founded by Dr.
Rolf which later evolved into the Rolf Institute.
It was re-established again as a separate school
in 1989 to carry on Dr. Rolf's work as she
originally developed it.
I am certified in
Virginia by the Board of Nursing and nationally
certified by the National Certification Board
for massage and Therapeutic Bodywork.
My continuing
education is just that - always continuing.
Every year I attend several workshops - either
advanced training in Structural Integration like Visceral
Manipulation or introductions to other bodywork
and movement methods.
All of which blend seamlessly into my practice
while giving me many options when I work with a
client who has a particularly challenging
structural or functional issue.
I also am
certified by the White Lotus Foundation to teach
the well-known style of "flow Yoga" as taught by
Tracey Rich and Gang White. I have also
studied structural yoga therapy as taught by
Gary Kraftsow and Mukanda Stiles. I often
suggest yoga to my clients with certain
structural challenges as a maintenance assist
after they have completed Structural
Integration.
Prior to becoming
a practitioner, I spent most of my career as a
management consultant, both in the US and
overseas, and I held a senior management
position in a national financial services firm.
I hold both an MBA and an MS in applied
Behavioral Science.
I love what I do
now more than anything I have ever done.
It is a wonder, a joy, and an honor to be doing
this work."

Why I Became a
Practitioner
"After almost 7
years of practicing massage therapy, I began to
be frustrated with what I perceived to be the
limitations of massage, as well as Not being
able to achieve long lasting changes with
clients who had chronic structural and
functional complaints. It seemed that
massage was, in too many instances, able to
provide only short-term relief. Around
this time I learned about Rolfing and began
receiving Structural Integration myself.
Immediately I knew that this approach to
bodywork was far more effective in addressing
structural and functional challenges than any
other I had experienced as well as providing a
noticeable and satisfying sense of ease,
connection and well-being within my body.
I was hooked, and knew that this was the right
path for me.
My Education,
Training and Certifications
I became a
resident of Fredericksburg in 1986 and attended
Mary Washington College.
I attended the
Atlanta School of Massage from 1994-95.
Upon graduation, I practiced in the Florida Keys
for a year. In the summer of 1996 I left
Florida to embark upon a cross-country tour that
lasted close to a year before moving back to
Virginia and establishing a local practice here
in Fredericksburg.
I was trained at
the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration,
being certified in November 2002. I have
been certified in Virginia by the Board of
Nursing since 1997.
Continuing
education is a passion for me and I have taken
dozens of workshops, trainings and seminars over
the course of my career, in places as far-flung
as Hawaii and San Francisco. I find the
wonder and complexity of the human body
fascinating and inspiring.
I offer an
integrative approach to manual therapy which
combines an extensive repertoire of techniques
with years of practical experience and an open,
respectful and curious approach. I believe
not in forcing an imposed order on the body, but
in removing restrictions which will allow the
body to self-correct, resulting in a true
embodiment of health."
