Structural Integration or Rolfing was developed by Dr. Ida Rolf over 50 years ago. Over a series of 1 hour sessions, a practitioner systematically manipulates the tissue called fascia that surrounds the muscles. When the tissue is released, the muscles can return to their normal position and functioning. Your body becomes realigned, resulting in improved posture and overall body functioning. “I tell my clients that growing older may be required, but
feeling older is optional”, says Carol Orrell, Certified Practitioner, Structural Integration, who recently moved to
Orrell became a practitioner because it was the only therapy that alleviated a number of her own problems. “I had TMJ disorder (jaw clenching, teeth grinding), and numbness in my arms. I tried everything including chiropractic, massage, and physical therapy. I wore a night guard my dentist gave me and had electrical stimulation. Nothing helped much until I found Structural Integration. It impressed me so much that I changed careers so that I could help others out of pain.”
Structural Integration has been known to be helpful in such diverse conditions as low back pain, headaches, repetitive stress injuries (including computer usage), neck & shoulder pain, and plantar fascitis (heel pain) among other conditions. Structural Integration is used by professional and Olympic athletes as well as actors, musicians, and dancers. It has been highlighted in many publications including AARP Magazine, Yoga Journal, Wall Street Journal, Running Times, Skiing and others.
